Wei Shen

Dr. Wei Shen is an Associate Research Scientist at Institute of Human Nutrition, Columbia University and a Research Associate at the Obesity Research Center, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center.

Wei Shen received her M.D. & M.S. degree in 1997 from Beijing Medical University, China. She completed her pediatrics training in 2000 as Chief Resident at Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH). Afterwards, she finished a three-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Obesity Research Center, St. Luke Hospital and Institute of Human Nutrition, Columbia University.

Dr. Shen's major interest is in the area of body composition and obesity, especially advanced magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy methods. She proposed the adipose tissue classification system for imaging methods and validated the geometrical model in 3-D tissue volume quantification using Visible Human data. Her recent research involves developing advanced adipose tissue quantification models using multi-center large-scale MRI database and optimized health risk measures using MRI/anthropometric methods in pediatric obesity.
