Clinical Expertise Highlights

Dr. Blandine Laferrère is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolism and has expertise in the evaluation and treatment of obesity and diabetes mellitus. She is an Attending in Medicine, a full time member of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition and the at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. Dr. Laferrère is also closely associated with the Center for Weight Management at the St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center. Dr. Laferrère is a member of the American Diabetes Association, Endocrine Society and Obesity Association (NAASO).

Academic/Research Highlights

Dr. Laferrère is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University and a Research Associate at the New York Obesity Research Center. Her research goal is to help understand the pathophysiology, cellular and molecular mechanisms contributing to the development and the maintenance of obesity and associated diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. More specifically, her interest in obesity and metabolism includes 1) the role of glucocorticoids and insulin in the regulation of leptin 2) the regulation of ghrelin and its effect on food intake in human obesity 3) the mechanisms by which diabetes improves after weight loss, particularly after bariatric surgery. Dr. Laferrère is a recipient of a Clinical Research Award from the American Diabetes Association and grants from the National Institutes of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
