José R. Fernández, Ph.D.

Curriculum Vitae

Dr. José R. Fernández is a new Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Obesity Research Center under the supervision of Dr. David Allison. During his predoctoral training at The Pennsylvania State University Dr. Fernández explored the application of quantitative genetic models to behavioral phenotypes relevant to health and development in the three most used genetic models: mice, fruit flies and humans. In his dissertation, entitled "Sex-exclusive quantitative trait loci for alcohol acceptance in mice", Dr. Fernández explored sex differences in genetic influences in alcohol consumption processes in mice by exploring the component of the variance in one sex that is independent of the other sex. His post-doctoral experience will focus on statistical genetics, particularly in working on developing new statistical methods and statistical software that incorporate linkage disequilibrium in the analysis of obesity-related quantitative traits.
