International Activities

2003-Initiated research collaboration with College of Oriental Medicine (Kyung Hee University, Seoul, Korea: Mi-Yeon Song, PhD) in area of body composition in premenopausal women. DXA data collected on 93 Korean women and manuscript is in progress comparing them with New York Caucasian women.
2002-Initiated research collaboration with Peking Union Medical College Hospital (Beijing, China: Ai-Jun Sun, MD) in area of body composition. DXA data collected on 225 post-menopausal women. Papers presented at NAASO 2003 and FASEB 2004. Submitted a Fogarty International Research Collaboration Award to NIH (March 2003) to conduct more advanced study of body composition and cardiovascular risk factors in adults. Unsuccessful in receiving funding.
2002-Initiated research collaboration with Jinan Maternal & Childcare Hospital, Shandong, China in area of pediatric obesity and cardiovascular risk factors (insulin, lipids, leptin). Data collected on 272 Tanner 1 (4-11 yrs) and analyses are ongoing.
2001-Initiated research collaboration with Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Seoul, S. Korea (Yong woo Park, MD) in area of obesity and cardiovascular risk factors in adults. Data collection will begin pending acquisition of a body composition measurement instrument (DXA).
