Clinical Expertise Highlights

Dr. Albu is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolism and has special expertise in the evaluation and treatment of obesity and diabetes mellitus. She is an Associate Attending in Medicine, a full time member of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition and the Chief of the Metabolism and Diabetes Clinic at the St. Luke’s site of the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center. Dr. Albu is also closely associated with the Joslin - affiliated Diabetes Clinic and the Van Itallie Center for Weight Management at the St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center. Dr. Albu has been listed in the Woodward and White’s Best Doctors in America, Northwest region. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Diabetes Association, Endocrine Society and North American Association for the Study of Obesity.

Academic/Research Highlights

Dr. Albu is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. Her research interest in Obesity and Metabolism includes: a) obesity - related metabolic abnormalities such as glucose intolerance, hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance , hyperlipidemia and the insulin action on lipid metabolism b) body fat distribution and body composition and their influence on metabolism c) energy metabolism and substrate utilization. Dr. Albu is a recipient of a Clinical Investigator Award from the National Institutes of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases and she has many publications including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts in her area of research interest. In addition Dr. Albu has conducted phase 1, 2 and 3 trials of potential agents in the treatment of diabetes and metabolism, sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry.
