Aijun Sun finished his MD and Ph.D. degree in 1997 in Gynecology Endocrinology from Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China. He is the secretary of the Chinese Menopause Society, a branch of the Chinese Medical Association and is responsible for the operation of this society. He is also an associate professor in PUMCH. His background training includes medical practice especially in Gynecology and Obstetrics and basic/clinical research for menopause. In September 2001, Dr. Sun joined Drs. Dympna Gallagher and Steve Heymsfield at the Obesity Research Center as a postdoctoral research scientist to work on leptin receptor and bone protocols using animal model and bone bio-mechanical methods at Columbia University, in collaboration with Dr. Streamson Chua, MD, Ph.D. (Department of Nutrition) and Dr. Ed Guo, Ph.D.(bio-mechanical lab). In the past 4 months, he has analyzed DXA data of normal Caucasian, African-American and Asian women. The paper is being prepared for submission. As well, he has set up methodology for bone study on the animal model.
