Gut peptides after Weight Loss Surgery

Study Type

Gut Peptides and Body Composition (IRB#: 03-108, approved May 13, 2009)

Study Purpose

Learn about the benefits of surgery on body composition, the hormones that control insulin secretion and appetite, and your risk for diabetes. 

Study Design

  • 2 or 3 half day research visits
  • Day 1: Glucose drink test
  • Day 2: Intravenous Glucose Test
  • Day 3:  Intravenous test for insulin Sensitivity and Body Composition (for 3 study periods)

Study Qualifications

  • Planning to have weight loss surgery
  • Between 21 and 60 years old
  • With or without type 2 diabetes
  • All ethnic groups welcome

Study Duration

2 or 3 half day visits before your surgery, 1 month after your surgery, and 1 year, 2 years, 3 years and 4 years after your surgery.  

Study Benefits

Learn more about insulin secretion and body composition changes after bariatric surgery and help understand why bariatric surgery may prevent and often “cure” diabetes.

You will receive up to $3250 in compensation for your time.
